First, it's helpful to understand that home electrical circuits have a maximum total current capacity, usually around 100 amps or 50 amps.
Additionally, the currents from separate branch circuits all add up to the total current on the main circuit. So if you set your EV charger to 40 amps, that means the rest of your home circuits combined can't exceed 60-100 amps. But some appliances like clothes dryers or space heaters use around 20 amps. This means it's easy to overload your main circuit when running the EV charger and other high-power devices.
That's why the LCD screen allows you to monitor the charging current in real-time. And by estimating your overall load, you can adjust the EV charger lower when using other large appliances. You can also use the delayed charging feature of the ShockFlo G1 Portable EV Charger to avoid overlapping high loads, starting charging after you go to sleep. This helps prevent circuit overload.
What's more, the temperature readout on the LCD screen guards against potential overheating hazards during operation.

To use the maximum current of the G1 portable charger, you need to change your circuit environment and install NEMA 14-50 so that you can set up level 2 charging (32 amp or 40 amp, 240 volts).

The excessive temperature in summer may trigger the temperature rise protection mechanism. When the temperature of the charger reaches 55°C, it will automatically adjust the current and power to stabilize the temperature. If it exceeds 80°C, the device will be power off automatically to protect your personal and property safety. It is recommended to check the charging status in time.
